Carbon Buddy Project: time for a pause

The Carbon Buddy Project website went live in early March and The Carbon Buddy Manual was launched, not by a talk here in Cornwall as originally planned , but online via Zoom last Friday. I and the team have had wonderful feedback so far. Thanks so much to all of you who have been in touch. Sadly though, we need to press the pause button for a while. My main focus over the next few weeks is to keep the embers glowing as best I can and to prepare for that moment (which will come) when we can begin to fan the flames of the Carbon Buddy Project once again.

We’ve heard a couple of stories of families sitting down together to start working through the manual. It’s a very varied and educational process which provides lots of scope for discussion. It’s best done in small chunks step by step.  It’s well suited to a period when the family has a bit more time together. This won’t be everyone’s idea of a useful distraction, but I hope that for those of you who do decide to start the process, that you will find it stimulating and bonding….and yes…distracting! We need distraction. The website will still be functioning which means you can easily buy copies of the manual online. Our distribution system is operating normally.

The media I am told is short of stories! That’s certainly my impression too. In this fallow period, I’m hoping  that I can “help out the media” (if I can catch their attention) by providing them  with another type of story, one that looks forward and contains hope, but one that will also draw on many of the lessons we are learning during this current emergency. We’ll be preparing press releases and offering to send out review copies in the hope that we will accumulate some good coverage in time for that moment when we press the Play button again. If you can open any doors to specific people in the media who might be interested in this story, and the story of families working away at planning how best to reduce their carbon footprint in the future, an introduction would be fantastic. You or they can contact me via colin@carbonbuddyproject.org

Whilst we all pause, I will be very aware why climate change is not high up on most peoples’ agenda at the moment. But I will still keep planning for the time when it will be again, and I’ll continue in the belief that The Carbon Buddy Manual will be a key tool to help individuals rediscover and apply the same amazing spirit that they are currently revealing to that older and probably bigger problem that will not have disappeared.

Best wishes to you all
